BE GRATEFUL

Just a few weeks before Tyler passed away he wanted to tell me something. By this time he had long since lost the ability to move or speak. We had to communicate through an eye chart. It was a long and painstaking process for him. It had to be very frustrating.

Looking through a Plexiglas chart covered with colors and letters, I would follow his eyes as he would spell letter by letter. He spelled “people,” and kept spelling. When he finished I looked at those beautiful blue eyes filling with tears, he said, “People need to be more grateful for the blessings they have.” My heart broke for him.

So, today, let’s be more grateful for the blessings we have. Tyler taught me to focus on what we do have and not to focus on what we do not. I don’t know about you, but many times that is easier to say than actually do. It is easier to be bitter for what we lack than grateful for what we possess. That’s where courage steps in and helps us see what Tyler saw. I miss him.

It is hard to not be bitter sometimes and perhaps it’s ok to occasionally feel that way, but for today let’s “be more grateful for the blessings we have.”

I love you, Tyler. You will forever be my Superman.

Cherish every moment.
